About this work

"I try to create an element of escapism with my work both for myself and the viewer."

"These works in particular were centred around some light studies I had done. I suppose I was hoping to capture something which is constantly changing but also impossibly still.”

The artist

Lu’ay Sami

Lu’ay Sami is a British-Iraqi artist based in Bristol, known for his monochrome still life studies. Often using detailed pointillism techniques, his drawings explore themes of light, movement and nature built-up through layers of intricate mark-making.

The artist creates work to provide a sense of stillness and escapism to busy city dwellers.

"The process of making work for me is inherently therapeutic, being able to hopefully provide a similar relief for other people means a lot to me.”
