“This collection of work is based on an exploration of mass and void and the forms and tensions that can be created by shapes joining and pushing apart from each other.”
“Each piece is created by hand-pinching and coiling textured clay which I then carve and smooth to create staggered repeated forms and volume. A limited palette of tonal colours allows the forms and textures to be the focus of the work and they can be placed singly or in small family groups for more emphasis.”

Haar East
Haar East is a Scottish artist who lives and works in London. Her practice spans ceramics and painting, in which she combines minimal textures with a neutral palette.
The artist’s ceramic pieces take a modern approach to traditional forms, often referencing shapes from historic vases and ornamental details. She hand-builds with raw clay offering a contrasting tactility to the simplistic compositions of her sculptures.
The Scottish term haar refers to ‘a dense sea of mist’, a phrase the artist feels relates to her soft aesthetic.
